PAB.KIR3 - Dossier «Bruder Klaus Kapelle, Bau der katholischen Kirche»
1868 zog die erste katholische Familie seit der Reformation von Schänis in Bäretswil ein, 1930 hatte es gut 250 Katholiken, die meisten als Gastarbeiter für den Bau der UeBB oder für die Webereien aus dem Süden zugezogen. Mit den französischen Internierten im 2. Weltkrieg verdoppelte sich die Zahl nahezu. Unter Pfarrer Helbling von Bauma und dem ersten Pfarrer von Bäretswil, Carl Enggässer, wurde von Architekt Gaudy die Bergkirche geplant, aus finanziellen Gründen aber nur der Pfarrsaal als Bergkapelle gebaut und am 19. Mai 1943 die Aufrichte gefeiert, mit anschliessendem Mahl bei Bitschnaus im ,Alpenblick' - am 4. Juli 1943 erfolgte die Einweihung.
Ende 1988 zählte Bäretswil 805 Katholiken.
Ab 1985 wird unter Pfarrer Andreas Gamma und Kirchenplegepräsident Franz Koster mit Architekt Karl Wenk eine neue Kirche geplant, am 6. August 1989 erfolgt der Spatenstich und am 9. Dez. 1990 Kirchweihe.
Im Mai 2002 wird die alte Bruder Klaus Kapelle abgerissen.
